S3 Agriculture is practical farming for Rwanda: soil, cereals, ornamental plants and fodder crops, then fish, bees, chickens and pigs, integrated livestock–fish farming and cooperative farming. Expect to plan, calculate and decide as a farmer would.
S3 Biology looks at how living things feed, transport materials, reproduce and survive in an environment. You will connect what happens inside a cell to what happens in a body, a farm and an ecosystem.
S3 Chemistry studies the non-metals carbon, nitrogen, sulphur and chlorine and their compounds, then how fast reactions go, how concentrated solutions are and what electrolysis does. It ends with the first steps in organic chemistry: alkanes, alkenes and alkynes. Equations and calculations carry heavy exam weight, so precision matters.
S3 English is about using the language with precision under exam conditions: reading closely, writing clearly, and arguing a position that holds. You will be judged on control of grammar and on whether your ideas land.
S3 Entrepreneurship turns ideas into working businesses. It covers resources and careers, customer care and business communication, the forms an enterprise can take, the sectors of production and customs procedures, and building a business model with the Business Model Canvas. It ends with business and the environment, ethics and certification. The exam rewards applied answers with Rwandan examples, not slogans.
S3 Fine Arts develops your eye and your hand: drawing facial expressions, the colour wheel, motifs and patterns on the computer, poster making, modelling animal figures, craftwork, tie and dye, and an introduction to African arts.
S3 Geography and Environment starts with map reading, then the physical geography of Africa and the world: relief, soils, climate, vegetation and drainage. It moves on to Africa's people and economy (population, towns, farming, forestry, fishing, mining, energy, industry, transport, trade and tourism), with case studies from the Netherlands, the USA, Japan, China and Switzerland. Map work is a guaranteed exam section, so practise it as a skill.
S3 History and Citizenship runs from the fundamental principles of the Rwandan State, through the French Revolution and the two World Wars, to colonial reforms, decolonisation in Ghana and Kenya, and democratisation. It then turns to the consequences of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, national independence, and the values of family life, tolerance and respect. You will handle evidence carefully and explain causes and consequences, not just dates.
S3 Home Science builds the skills of a well-run home: cleaning and arranging a house, decoration, laundry, using a sewing machine, storing food safely, recognising nutritional deficiencies, and preparing and serving drinks and cakes.
S3 ICT is hands-on computing. You will choose and manage operating systems, application and utility software; build automatic tables in a word processor; make charts in spreadsheets; design presentations; and program a platform game with AI and robot logic in Scratch. Expect to produce real work on a computer, not describe one from memory.
Muri S3, uzimakaza ururimi rwawe kavukire: kuvuga no kwandika neza, gusesengura imyandiko, no kumenya ubuvanganzo n'umuco nyarwanda. Ikizamini cy'igihugu gisaba kwitondera imyandikire n'ikibonezamvugo.
S3 Mathematics pulls algebra, geometry and data handling together into the toolkit the national exam actually tests. You will move from manipulating numbers to modelling situations: solving equations, reading shapes with trigonometry, and drawing conclusions from data.
S3 Music deepens your musicianship: compound and asymmetric time signatures, triad chords, the expressive elements of performance, and performing a play in various languages.
S3 Physical Education and Sports builds fitness, skill and fair play: physical conditioning, track and field tactics, and game situations in football, volleyball, basketball, handball and netball, plus adaptive sports such as sitting volleyball and goalball. You learn the rules as the governing bodies write them, how to warm up and prevent injury, and basic first aid.
S3 Physics explains motion, energy, heat, waves and electricity with a small set of laws you can apply anywhere. Expect to define, derive, calculate and then say what your answer physically means.
S3 Religion and Ethics sets Christian and Islamic teaching side by side and asks what they mean for how we live: God’s call and the holy scriptures, acts of charity as a religious duty in Christianity and Islam, worship practices and their moral significance, and friendship and sexuality. You will read sources carefully, compare views respectfully and reason about right and wrong.
