S6 Basic Mathematics is the applied mathematics of the non-mathematics combinations: two-variable statistics, counting techniques and elementary probability, used to answer real questions from data.
S6 Biology runs from ecosystems and populations to the body's own systems: circulation, respiration, nerves, hormones, reproduction and movement. It ends with gene technology, variation and evolution. You will be asked to interpret data and explain mechanisms, not recite lists.
S6 Chemistry covers the transition metals and how metals are extracted, benzene and its derivatives, and polymers. It then turns to control: equilibrium, pH, titration curves, solubility, electrochemical cells and reaction rates, ending with radioactivity. Expect exact equations, data and calculations.
S6 Economics is macroeconomics and policy: national income, money, trade and development, applied to Rwanda's actual choices. You will use diagrams and data as arguments, and you are expected to evaluate, not just describe.
S6 English is the compulsory English course for every combination. It covers close reading and listening, debating and presenting, advanced grammar, and writing formal letters, reports, speeches and essays. Its topics run from national affairs, teenage life and cultural diversity to careers, space travel, money and banking, and Rwanda's development.
S6 English for the language combinations goes beyond everyday English into how the language works. Its themes are human ambitions and moral choices, moral integrity, rules and regulations, radio and television programmes, living fairly, life and nature, weather and daily life, and social interactions. Expect close analysis of texts, register and style, and demanding written work.
In your final year, Entrepreneurship becomes concrete: a plan, real accounts, real tax and real law. You are learning to run a business, not to talk about one.
S6 General and Religious Studies is the paper every combination sits. It covers genocide and its prevention, democracy and good governance, national service and self-reliance, pluralism, international relations, employment and the economy, financial scams, media rights and responsibilities, the attributes of God, marriage and human sexuality, and peace, unity and justice. It rewards clear, evidence-based argument.
S6 Geography reads the whole world. It covers map and photograph interpretation; plate tectonics and the landforms that weathering, rivers, ice, wind and waves make; rocks, soils and climate change; then energy, industry, transport, trade, multipurpose river projects, conservation and tourism. Map work and photograph interpretation are examined skills, so practise them as skills.
S6 History runs from the fundamental principles of the Rwandan State and the forms of the slave trade, through Europe from 1849 to 1878 and the two World Wars, to African nationalism, neocolonialism, genocide prevention, democracy and justice in Rwanda, and conflict resolution. It is written in essays: build an argument, support it with accurate evidence and reach a defended judgement.
S6 History for the language combinations is a shorter course on the forces that shaped modern Africa and Rwanda: the fundamental principles of the Rwandan State, the First and Second World Wars and the years between them, the rise of African nationalism, genocide prevention in Rwanda and abroad, and neo-colonialism. You will argue from evidence and use precise, careful language about Rwanda’s past.
S6 ICT turns computing into projects: collecting data with online forms, building websites with AI tools, reasoning with fuzzy logic, processing natural language, programming Arduino circuits and designing smart robots. Expect to build, test and explain working systems, not just describe them.

This is the year your Advanced Mathematics comes together: complex numbers, logarithms and series, integration and differential equations, vector subspaces, matrix transformations, conics and random variables. The national exam expects rigour, so you will justify every step, not just reach an answer.
S6 Physical Education and Sports covers the rules, officiating and coaching of gymnastics, athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, handball, rugby, netball, goalball and sitting volleyball, together with basic first aid and the science of physical fitness. Rules follow the current governing-body rulebooks.
S6 Physics takes you into fields, quanta and the nucleus, and into the electronics that run modern devices. You will be expected to reason quantitatively and to justify results with laws, not intuition.
S6 Psychology studies how people think, feel and act, with evidence. It covers social psychology (its rationale and key theories, how groups form and how they behave within and between themselves), health psychology, emotions, psychological disorders and their prevention, and guidance and counselling with its main theories. You will weigh studies critically, including famous ones that failed to replicate, and apply psychology to life in Rwanda.
S6 Psychology for the language combinations studies the mind with a focus on people and language: social psychology and its theories, group dynamics, cross-cultural psychology, psycholinguistics, how language is processed and acquired, guidance and counselling and their main approaches, and health psychology. You will weigh evidence critically and apply it to life in Rwanda.
