Let's begin
Keza's family has a box of broken things: an old mobile phone, a radio that no longer plays, a cracked charger and some dead batteries. Her brother wants to throw the box into the pit behind the house. "Wait!" says Keza. "That is e-waste. It has poison inside, and treasure too!"
E-waste (electronic waste) is old or broken electrical and electronic equipment: phones, computers, televisions, radios, chargers, cables, batteries, bulbs, printers and solar lamps. E-waste is growing fast, because people replace their devices often.

Industrial waste comes from factories and processing plants. It includes:
Every factory affects the environment in some way. For example, paper-making uses huge amounts of water, and the waste water contains chemicals that damage rivers. In Rwanda, coffee washing stations produce coffee pulp and dirty water, tea factories produce waste leaves and smoke, and cement factories produce dust.
Tip
E-waste is a treasure box with poison inside. Open it only at a proper recycling centre, never with fire.
