Human Respiratory System
Lesson 3 of 5
12 min
Let's begin
In Mugisha's home, his mother cooks beans on firewood in a small kitchen with no window. Thick smoke fills the room, and everyone coughs and rubs their eyes.
At school, Mugisha's teacher explains that smoke hurts the lungs. Mugisha wants to help his family. What can they change?
Mugisha's family could open a window or make one, add a chimney, use an improved cookstove that burns less wood with less smoke, use dry wood (wet wood makes more smoke), or cook outside when the weather is good. Each change means cleaner air for everyone's lungs.
