Read a magazine description of a gusaba, a bargaining scene at a clothes market, a radio phone-in about what to wear, an account of Umuganura and Andersen's tale "The Emperor's New Clothes"; put adjectives in the right order, compare with -er, more, too and enough, join ideas with when-clauses and build compound adjectives; describe an occasion through the clothes people wore; judge characters by their traits and their context; and stress two-syllable words correctly.

Read a geography text on Rwanda's volcanoes, hills and lakes, a radio climate report with a rainfall chart, an environment-club debate, a persuasive article about soil and terraces, and the African Storybook tale of Wangari Maathai; make subjects and verbs agree; predict with will, may and might; show cause and result with if and will; write to protect the environment; describe the setting of a story; and link words smoothly in connected speech.

Read a club survey report, a conversation on a Kigali bus, a school incident report, a health worker's talk on drug abuse and the Zulu folktale "The Honeyguide's revenge"; join ideas with and, but, or, so, because, although and therefore; use at, in and on for places and times; explain anti-social behaviour and its effects in speech and writing; work out characters' traits from how they are drawn; and use the right intonation for statements and questions.

Read a magazine feature on Rwanda's five kinds of wealth, a radio visit to a coffee washing station, an interview with a gorilla-trekking guide, a student's report on a district's resources and two of Aesop's fables; choose between adjectives and adverbs; describe processes with the present simple passive and turn active sentences into passive ones; write a short report and plan the "Rwanda's Economic Mosaic" expo; find the message of a fable; and pronounce -ed endings as /t/, /d/ or /ɪd/.
