Umutoni has a new friend, Byiringiro. She knows his name.
Now she wants to know more. How old is he? Where does he live?
Today you will say your age and your town in French.
J’ai sept ans. means I am seven years old. (In Kinyarwanda: Mfite imyaka irindwi.)
Put your age in the middle: J’ai six ans. J’ai huit ans.
J’habite à Kigali. means I live in Kigali. (In Kinyarwanda: Ntuye i Kigali.)
Put your town at the end: J’habite à Huye. J’habite à Musanze.
Umutoni : « J’ai six ans. J’habite à Huye. »
Byiringiro : « Moi, j’ai sept ans. J’habite à Musanze. »
A boy says: Je suis rwandais.
A girl says: Je suis rwandaise. You hear a little z at the end.
Both mean I am Rwandan. (In Kinyarwanda: Ndi Umunyarwanda.)

Look: je becomes j’ in j’ai and j’habite. It is short and quick.
Careful! In English you say I am seven. In French you say I HAVE seven years: J’ai sept ans.
Tip
In French, you HAVE your years
Hold up your fingers and say J’ai (I have) … sept ans. Never say je suis sept.
