Poser des questions
Lesson 1 of 4
10 min
Read this with a big person. Say every French word out loud.
A new boy stands at the classroom door. He looks shy.
Ishimwe wants to be his friend. First, he asks the boy’s name.
Comment tu t’appelles ? means What is your name? (In Kinyarwanda: Witwa nde?)
The answer is: Je m’appelle …
Ishimwe : « Bonjour ! Comment tu t’appelles ? »
Niyonzima : « Je m’appelle Niyonzima. Et toi ? »
Ishimwe : « Moi, c’est Ishimwe. »
Friends also ask: Tu t’appelles comment ? It means the same.
When you ask a question, your voice climbs up at the end, like walking up a hill.
When you answer, your voice comes down: Je m’appelle Niyonzima.

Tip
The question and the answer are twins
