15 min
Read this with a big person. Say every French word out loud.
It is Saturday. Byiringiro goes to play football with his neighbour, Shema.
At the pitch, they meet Umutoni. She does not know Shema. Byiringiro wants them to meet.
Today you will introduce a friend and say three things about him or her.
Byiringiro : « Umutoni, je te présente mon ami Shema. »
Umutoni : « Bonjour, Shema ! Enchantée ! »
Shema : « Enchanté, Umutoni ! »
Byiringiro : « Shema a huit ans. Il habite à Kicukiro, comme moi. »
Umutoni : « Tu aimes le football, Shema ? »
Shema : « Oui, j'aime beaucoup le football ! »
comme moi = like me.
| French | English |
|---|---|
| Je te présente … | This is … (I want you to meet …) |
| mon ami | my friend, a boy (inshuti yanjye) |
| mon amie | my friend, a girl. It sounds the same as ami! |
| Enchanté ! | Nice to meet you! A girl writes Enchantée. It sounds the same. |
Use four little steps:
For a girl, say elle: Je te présente mon amie Umutoni. Elle a sept ans. Elle aime chanter.
Simo is a boy. He tells us about his friends. Mes amis means my friends.
Je m'appelle Simo.
J'ai quatre amis.
Ils s'appellent Zizo, Lele, Sisa et Ayanda.
Mon amie Zizo aime jouer au football.
Mon amie Lele aime nager.
Mon ami Sisa aime jouer à cache-cache.
Mon amie Ayanda aime lire.
Ils s'appellent = their names are. Nager = to swim. Cache-cache = hide-and-seek. Lire = to read.
