Keza talks about her grandmother:
« Ma grand-mère habite à Musanze. Ma grand-mère aime les vaches. Ma grand-mère chante bien. »
That is a lot of ma grand-mère! French has two short words to help: il and elle.
il = he. Use it for a boy or a man: mon oncle, mon cousin, papa, Gatete.
elle = she. Use it for a girl or a woman: ma tante, ma cousine, maman, Keza.
Now Keza can say: « Ma grand-mère habite à Musanze. Elle aime les vaches. Elle chante bien. »
Say il with a smile, like [i]. Say elle like « ell ».
A child tells us about the family garden. Look for il and elle.
Ma mère plante des petits pois.
Elle plante dans un petit jardin.
Mon père plante des fleurs.
Il plante aussi dans un petit jardin.
Ma mère enlève les mauvaises herbes.
Elle travaille dans les deux jardins.
Mon père arrose.
Il arrose les deux jardins.
Ma sœur et moi, nous cueillons les fleurs et les petits pois.
