How to use the scientific calculator
- Type an expression with the keys or your keyboard — for example 2×(3+4)−1. Brackets left open at the end are closed for you.
- The answer appears in grey as you type. Press = or Enter to finish the calculation.
- Angles are in degrees (DEG) by default; press DEG to switch to radians. Press 2nd for sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹, eˣ, 10ˣ, ∛ and x³.
- After =, pressing an operator carries on from the answer (Ans). Tap any line on the tape to reuse its result.
What it does
- Sine, cosine and tangent and their inverses, in degrees or radians — exact at 0°, 30°, 90° and 180°
- Powers, squares, cubes, square and cube roots, any root (ʸ√x) and reciprocals
- log, ln, eˣ and 10ˣ
- Factorials, permutations (nPr) and combinations (nCr)
- Scientific notation with EXP — 6.02 EXP 23 is 6.02 × 10²³
- Brackets, percent, implicit multiplication (2π, 3(4+1)) and the last answer, Ans
- A tape of every calculation, and full keyboard use: Enter equals, Esc clears, Backspace deletes
Questions
Is the calculator in degrees or radians?
Degrees by default, as in school maths up to S6. Press DEG to switch to radians — your choice is remembered on this device.
Why does sin(180) give exactly 0?
In degree mode the common angles are worked out exactly, so sin 180° is 0 and tan 90° is a math error, the way a school calculator answers — not a tiny rounding leftover such as 1.2 × 10⁻¹⁶.
How do I work out combinations, like 5C2?
Type 5, press nCr, type 2 and press =. The answer is 10. Press 2nd first to get nPr (permutations) instead.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. It runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and once the page is open every calculation happens on your device.
Is it free?
Yes — free, with no account and nothing to install.
