How to use the periodic table
- Tap or hover over an element; its details open in the space above the transition metals.
- Search by name, symbol or atomic number, and press Enter to jump to it.
- Colour the table by category, by block (s, p, d, f) or by state at 25 °C, and tap a legend entry to pick out one family.
- Press PDF for an A4 table that prints sharp, or PNG for an image.
What it does
- Atomic number, symbol, name and standard atomic weight of all 118 elements
- Ground-state electron configurations, irregular ones included (chromium, copper, palladium…)
- Electrons per shell in the 2, 8, 1 form, with a Bohr diagram
- Pauling electronegativity, group, period, block and state at room temperature
- Colour by category, block or state; search; highlight one family at a time
- A printable A4 PDF and a high-resolution PNG, with a key to what each cell shows
Questions
What is the electron configuration of sodium?
[Ne] 3s¹ — that is 2, 8, 1 electrons per shell. Tap Na in the table to see it with a Bohr diagram.
How many elements are there?
118, from hydrogen (atomic number 1) to oganesson (118). Elements from rutherfordium (104) on have only ever been made a few atoms at a time, so their configurations are predicted.
Can I print the periodic table?
Yes. Press PDF to download an A4 landscape table — real text and shapes, so it stays sharp at any size — or PNG for a picture.
Where are the lanthanides and actinides?
They belong to group 3 of periods 6 and 7 (elements 57–71 and 89–103) and are drawn as the two rows under the table, as in most textbooks.
What do the colours mean?
By default they show each element's category — alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, post-transition metals, metalloids, other non-metals, halogens, noble gases, lanthanides and actinides. You can switch to block or state instead.
