Introduction to C Scale
Lesson 3 of 5
20 min
Let's begin
Gatete can sing do re mi fa so la ti do. Now he wants to see it written on a staff. "Where do I start?" he asks. You start on a very famous note: middle C.
In the treble clef, the C scale climbs from middle C to the C in the third space. Each note is one step higher than the last: line, space, line, space.
A tune in C can be written in sol-fa (d r m f s…) or on the staff. They are two ways of writing the same sounds, like writing the same word in two alphabets. Singers in a choir often read sol-fa, and piano players usually read the staff. A good musician can read both.
Tip
Middle C wears a belt. Middle C is the note with a little line through its middle, just below the staff. Find it, and then climb up one step at a time.
Try each one first, then tap Show answer to check.
