Lesson 3 of 4
14 min
Let's begin
For Heroes' Day, the class is making posters. Ishimwe wants to draw the flag of Rwanda. "My freehand lines are all wobbly," he says. "How do I make straight, neat bands?"
Paint has ready-made shapes that come out neat every time.
In Sugar Paint, the Shapes toolbar has many shapes: line, rectangle, ellipse, triangle, polygon, star, arrow, heart, parallelogram and trapezoid.
For a star or a polygon, you can choose the number of points or sides in Shapes properties.
Click the Text tool, click on the canvas and type. You can make the words bold or italic and change their size and font.
Tip
Shift makes it perfect
Rectangle + Shift = square. Ellipse + Shift = circle.
Try each one first, then tap Show answer to check.
Which shape tool and key do you use for a perfect circle?
Answer: The ellipse tool, while holding Shift.
What is the difference between the fill colour and the border?
Answer: The fill colour is inside the shape; the border is the line round its edge.
Name three shapes you would use to draw a simple house.
Answer: For example: a square or rectangle for the walls, a triangle for the roof, a small rectangle for the door.
Which tool draws a perfectly straight road across your map?
Answer: The line tool.
