Lesson 4 of 4
14 min
Let's begin
On a school trip to Nyungwe forest, Mutesi takes photos of monkeys and records the birds singing. Back at school, she puts her photos, the bird sounds and a few sentences together to show the class. Her friends feel as if they are in the forest!
Mutesi has made a multimedia project.
Multimedia means using more than one type of content together to share information or to entertain. "Multi" means many; "media" are ways of carrying information.
| Type of content | Example |
|---|---|
| Text | the words in a story or a caption |
| Pictures (graphics) | a photo, a drawing, a map |
| Audio (sound) | a song, a voice recording, birdsong |
| Video | a film of a football match |
| Animation | a cartoon: many pictures shown quickly one after another, so they seem to move |
Television, lesson videos, computer games and websites are all multimedia. Using many kinds of content makes information easier to understand and more fun.
The Record activity uses the laptop's camera and microphone to take photos, record video and record audio. Everything you record is kept in the Journal.
You can also insert a photo from the Journal into Paint, using the Image toolbar, and draw or write on it.
Always ask before you take a photo of someone or record their voice.
