Motor Control
Lesson 3 of 3
15 min
Let's begin
Ishimwe played football all break.
Now his face is hot. His heart goes boom, boom, boom!
How can Ishimwe feel calm again?
Grown-up: read this aloud. Show each move first. Then do it together.
You need: clean, dry ground or mats to lie on.
The teacher claps. You listen and move.
After hard play, your heart beats fast. You breathe fast too.
Resting makes your body calm. Your heart and your breathing slow down.
Do it five times. Feel your tummy go up and down.
Everyone lies down very still, like sleeping lions.
One child is the hunter. The hunter walks around and says funny things. The hunter never touches the lions!
Did you move or laugh? Then get up and be a hunter too.
Squeeze your hands into tight fists. Count to 3.
Now let go. Your hands go soft and floppy.
Lift your shoulders up to your ears. Then drop them. Ahhh.
Warning
Safety first! Lie down only on clean, dry ground with no stones. Hunters look, but never touch.
Tip
Smell the flower, blow out the candle
Breathe in through your nose, like smelling a flower. Breathe out through your mouth, like blowing out a candle.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Do balloon breathing five times.
Answer: Hands on your tummy. In through your nose, out through your mouth.
Your tummy fills up like a balloon. Are you breathing in or out?
Answer: In. The air goes in and your tummy gets big.
In "Sleeping lions", can the hunter touch the lions?
Answer: No. The hunter can only look and say funny things.
Squeeze your fists tight, then let go. How do your hands feel?
Answer: Soft and floppy. That is how "relaxed" feels.
