Lesson 1 of 3
20 min
Let's begin
Habimana and Umutoni stand on a chalk line.
"Ready, steady, go!" They run to a big stone.
Who gets there first? They are both smiling!
Grown-up: read this aloud. Show each move first. Then do it together.
You need: a start line made with chalk or a stick, and a stone or a bottle about 15 big steps away.
The teacher calls a colour. You move.
Running slowly is called jogging.
Running very fast is called sprinting.
Today you sprint a short way, then stop.
Make teams of four. Each team stands in a line behind the start line.
The first runner sprints to the stone, touches it and runs back. High five the next runner. Now it is their turn!
When your whole team has run, sit down. Cheer for every runner.
Walk slowly around the field. Shake your arms and legs.
Running makes you thirsty. Drink some clean water.
Warning
Safety first! Run in your own lane and look ahead. After the stone, slow down little by little. Do not stop suddenly.
Tip
Foot, bend, go!
Ready: foot at the line. Steady: bend your knees. Go: pump your arms!
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Do the running start 3 times.
Answer: Foot at the line, bend and lean, then run and pump your arms.
Is jogging fast running or slow running?
Answer: Slow. Fast running is called sprinting.
In "Traffic lights", what do you do on "Red!"?
Answer: Stop and stand still.
Why do you drink water after running?
Answer: Running makes you thirsty. Clean water helps your body.
