Motor Control
Lesson 2 of 3
15 min
Let's begin
Keza's cat wakes up from a nap.
It pushes its legs out, long and slow. Then it yawns.
Keza laughs. "The cat is stretching!" Let's stretch too.
Grown-up: read this aloud. Show each move first. Then do it together.
You need: an open space. Soft grass is best for the calm-down.
One child is the leader. Everyone walks in a line behind.
The leader jogs, skips, hops or tiptoes. Everyone copies.
After one minute, a new child leads.
Stretching makes your muscles long. Cats and dogs stretch when they wake up. People do too!
Stretching helps your body bend and reach.
Curl up small on the ground, like a seed.
Go onto your hands and knees.
Push your back up round, like a cross cat. Then let it go flat.
Do it three times, slowly. Breathe in and out.
Warning
Safety first! Stretch slowly and gently. Never bounce. If it hurts, stop.
Tip
Slow like a waking cat
A stretch is slow and gentle. Count to 5, then let go.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Do the tall tree stretch. Count to 5.
Answer: Feet apart, arms up high, sway slowly.
Which animals stretch when they wake up?
Answer: Cats and dogs. People do too.
Your stretch starts to hurt. What do you do?
Answer: Stop. A stretch should feel gentle, never painful.
In "Seed to tree", what do you do when you hear "Night!"?
