Lesson 2 of 3
20 min
Let's begin
Two ropes lie on the grass. "This is a river!" says the teacher.
"Jump over it. Don't get your feet wet!"
Gatete bends his knees. Can he jump across?

Grown-up: read this aloud. Show each move first. Then do it together.
You need: two ropes or two chalk lines, a long skipping rope, and soft grass or sand.
Do 10 of each.
Lay two ropes on the ground, close together. That is the river.
Everyone jumps across with two feet. Then move the ropes a little wider.
Did you land in the "water"? Just go back and try again. Nobody is out.
Two children hold a long rope near the ground. They wiggle it gently, like a snake.
Everyone takes a turn to jump over the snake. Later, the rope can swing slowly for skipping.
Sit down with straight legs. Reach slowly towards your toes. Count to 5.
Shake your legs gently. Breathe slowly.
Warning
Safety first! Jump on soft grass or sand, never on stones. A rope is only for jumping. Never put it round anyone's neck.
Tip
Swing, jump, squash!
Swing your arms. Jump up. Squash down softly when you land.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Do 5 two-foot jumps.
