Ball Games Primarily Played with Our Hands (e.g. Volleyball, Basketball, Handball and Netball)
Lesson 3 of 3
20 min
Let's begin
Mugisha's big sister plays basketball.
She bounces the ball as she walks. Bounce, bounce, bounce!
"This is called dribbling," she says. "Now you try!"

Grown-up: read this aloud. Show each move first. Then do it together.
You need: a ball that bounces, and hard, flat ground.
In basketball, you move with the ball by bouncing it. This is called dribbling.
In netball, bouncing the ball is not allowed. Every game has its own rules!
Hold the ball up. Let it drop. It bounces once. Catch it with two hands.
Do it 5 times. Now clap once before you catch!
Stand still first. When it is easy, try walking.
Everyone dribbles a ball in their own space.
The teacher blows a whistle. Catch the ball with two hands and freeze!
Next, try it with your other hand.
Circle your wrists slowly. Shake your hands. Breathe in and out.
Warning
Safety first! Bounce the ball beside you, not on your toes. If it rolls away, walk to get it and look around first.
Tip
Push, don't slap!
Soft fingers push the ball down. Then it comes back up to you.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Do "drop and catch" 5 times.
Answer: Drop, one bounce, catch with two hands.
