Poser des questions
Lesson 4 of 4
15 min
It is Friday afternoon. Madame Umutoni holds up three big cards: QUI ?, QUOI ? and QUAND ?.
She says: « Posez des questions ! » (Ask questions!) Who can ask the best one?
| Long way (class, grown-ups) | Short way (friends) |
|---|---|
| Qui est-ce ? | C’est qui ? |
| Qu’est-ce que c’est ? | C’est quoi ? |
| Quand est-ce que c’est ? | C’est quand ? |
Look! In the short way, the question word goes at the END.
Uwase comes home with a friend. Grand-mère has lots of questions!
Grand-mère : « Bonsoir, Uwase ! Qui est avec toi ? »
Uwase : « C’est Ishimwe, une amie de l’école. »
Grand-mère : « Bonsoir, Ishimwe ! Et qu’est-ce que c’est, dans le sac ? »
Ishimwe : « C’est un ballon, grand-mère ! »
Grand-mère : « Un ballon ! Et vous jouez quand ? »
Uwase : « Demain, après l’école ! »
Avec toi means with you. Dans le sac means in the bag. Après l’école means after school.
Can you find the three question words? Qui, qu’est-ce que and quand.
All three words start with a k sound: ki, kwa, kan. And your voice goes up at the end: C’est quand ? ↗
Write QUI, QUOI and QUAND on three pieces of paper. Turn them over and pick one.
Ask a question with that word. A big person answers. Then swap!
Tip
Think of the answer first. Will the answer be a person, a thing or a time? That tells you which card to pick: qui, quoi or quand.
Say or write your answer first, then tap Show answer to check.
