Les objets de la classe
Lesson 4 of 4
20 min
Listen: la boule, la poule.
One is a ball. One is a hen! Only one sound changes: [b] or [p].
Today you will say both sounds, and show your school things in French.
[b]: your voice buzzes. Press your lips together. Open them with your voice ON. Put your hand on your throat: it buzzes! le bic, le banc, le bureau, bonjour, bleu.
[p]: a little puff. Press your lips together. Open them with a little puff of air and no voice. Put your hand in front of your mouth: you feel the air! le papier, la porte, la pomme, papa, la poule.
In Kinyarwanda, b is often soft. For the French b, close your lips well, then open them.
| [b] | [p] |
|---|---|
| la boule ⚽ (the ball) | la poule 🐔 (the hen, inkoko) |
| le bain 🛁 (the bath) | le pain 🍞 (the bread, umugati) |
Papa pose le papier bleu sur le bureau = Papa puts the blue paper on the desk.
A child shows us a box of coloured pencils. This text comes from a story from Mozambique.
Find a [b] and a [p] in the text: bleu, drapeau!

Keza shows her things to the class:
Voici mon cahier. Mon cahier est sur ma table. Et voici mes crayons de couleur !
Now it is your turn. Put your things on your table. Present them to a friend or a big person: « Voici ma trousse. Dans ma trousse, il y a … »
