My School Leaders and Symbols
Lesson 3 of 4
11 min
Let's begin
Keza meets her cousin Umutoni on the road home.
Umutoni goes to another school. Her shirt is a different colour.
On Umutoni's shirt there is a small picture with words around it.
Today you will learn about school symbols.
A school symbol is a sign.
It tells people which school you belong to.
Two schools have two different symbols. That is how people tell them apart.
The uniform is the clothing you wear to school every day.
Each school chooses its own colours.
When people see your uniform on the path, they know your school.
The badge is the small picture on your shirt. Some people call it the logo.
It often carries the school name and a picture, like a book, a lamp or a hill.
Your badge is not the same as Umutoni's badge.
The motto is a few good words that the school lives by.
You will learn more about the motto in the next lesson.
The school anthem is a song about your own school.
You sing it to show that you love your school.
Careful! The school anthem is not the national anthem. Rwanda Nziza belongs to the whole country. A school anthem belongs to one school only.
Keep your uniform clean. Do not tear the badge off your shirt.
Stand up straight when the school anthem is sung.
Tip
Two schools, two badges
Look down at your own shirt now.
The badge and the colour are your school talking for you.
If you think every school wears the same badge, look again at a cousin from another school.
