My School Leaders and Symbols
Lesson 1 of 4
10 min
Let's begin
Mugisha comes through the school gate in the morning.
A bell rings. Doors open. Grown-ups walk past him with books and papers.
One door has a small sign on it. Mugisha wonders who sits inside.
Today you will name the people who lead a school.
A school is not only pupils and teachers.
Some grown-ups lead the school. A leader looks after people and makes things work well.
You walk past these leaders every day.
The head teacher is the top leader of a school.
He or she makes the important decisions.
The head teacher cares for the pupils, the teachers and the buildings.
There is only one head teacher in a school.
A school can have these leaders too:
Say each name out loud. Then look for that person at your own school.
A small school may have only a head teacher and some teachers.
A big school may have all of them.
Careful! A policeman is not a school leader. The village leader leads the village. The President leads the country, not your school.

Tip
One school, one head teacher
Tomorrow, point at the office door as you walk past it.
Say quietly: the head teacher leads the whole school.
If you call every grown-up the head teacher, you have slipped. There is only one.
Answer each one, then tap Show answer to check.
