God's Creation
Lesson 1 of 6
10 min
Let's begin
Keza sits in the yard with a lump of wet clay.
She rolls it, presses it and pulls out four little legs.
Now a small clay cow stands in her hand. It was not there before.
Today you will learn the word for making something new.
Keza created a clay cow.
Before she began there was no cow. There was only clay.
To create is to make something that was not there before.
Careful! Buying is not creating. Finding is not creating.
If you buy a mango at the market, you did not create it.
Many families in Rwanda tell a story about how the world began.
The story says that long ago there was nothing at all.
Then God created everything we can see.
All the things that were made are called God's creation.
Some children think creation means animals only.
In this unit, creation means everything that was made.
The sun is creation. The rain is creation.
The hills, the rivers, the trees and the grass are creation.
Birds, fish, goats and cows are creation.
You are creation too.
At home, each family tells this story in its own way.
The friend beside you may tell it a little differently.
Listen kindly when she does. That is a good thing to practise.
In this unit you are learning what the story teaches.

Tip
Was it there before?
Ask that one question about anything.
If it was not there before, somebody created it.
Buying it and finding it do not make a new thing.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Uwase weaves a basket out of grass. Did she create it?
Answer: yes. There was no basket before, only grass in her hands.
Mugisha buys a mandazi for 100 Frw. Did he create it?
Answer: no. Buying is not creating. Somebody else made that mandazi.
Is a river part of God's creation?
Answer: yes. Creation is everything that was made, not only animals.
Name two things from God's creation that you saw today.
Answer: any two, for example a bird and a tree. A goat, the sun or a person all count.
Look around you now. Find one thing people made and one thing nobody made.
Answer: people made your chair and your book. Nobody made the sky or the hills.
