Stand at a busy road in Kigali for one minute and count: motos, buses, cars, bicycles, lorries, and lots of people on foot. And in the sky, now and then, a plane coming in to land.
How do people travel in Rwanda? Today you will name every kind of transport in French.
À Kigali, il y a beaucoup de motos. La moto est rapide. Le passager porte un casque. Il y a aussi des bus. Le bus est grand et il transporte beaucoup de personnes.
À la campagne, beaucoup de personnes voyagent à vélo ou à pied. Sur le lac Kivu, il y a des bateaux. Et pour aller dans un autre pays, on prend l'avion à l'aéroport de Kigali.
On voyage = people travel. Rapide = fast. Un casque = a helmet. À la campagne = in the countryside.

Places for travelling: la route (the road), la gare routière (the bus station), l'aéroport (the airport), le port (the port, for boats).
To say HOW you travel, French uses two little words:
Examples: Je vais à Huye en bus. Mugisha va à l'école à pied. Maman va au marché à moto.
Tell a friend how three people in your family travel: « Mon père va au travail en bus. Ma sœur va à l'école à pied. Moi, je … »
Tip
Roof or wind? If there is a roof over your head, say en: en bus, en voiture, en avion. If the wind blows on your face, say à: à vélo, à moto, à pied.
What is le camion in English?
Answer: the lorry.
En or à? Je vais à Rubavu ___ bus.
Answer: en bus (you sit inside).
En or à? Keza va à l'école ___ pied.
Answer: à pied (you use your feet).
Say in French: We travel by plane.
Answer: Nous voyageons en avion.
Where do you take a plane?
Answer: à l'aéroport.
