My Village and Its Leaders
Lesson 2 of 3
9 min
Let's begin
Umutoni meets a nurse at the health post.
The nurse asks her, "Which village do you come from?" Then she asks, "And which cell?"
Umutoni knows one answer but not the other. Today you will learn both.
Your village is a small place.
Next to your village there is another village. And next to that one, another.
Put many villages together. Now you have a cell.
So a cell is bigger than one village.
Worked example
Umutoni draws her cell.
Step 1 She draws her own village and writes its name under it.
Step 2 She draws the villages beside hers. She counts 5 villages.
Step 3 She draws one big ring around all of them. That ring is her cell.
Many villages fit inside one cell.
Careful! Do not say that many cells make one village. That is the wrong way round.
People will ask you where you live. Now you can answer well.
Say your village name first. Then say your cell name.
Ask a grown-up at home for both names tonight. Say them until you remember them.
Your home is in a village.
Your school is in a village too.
Sometimes it is the same village. Sometimes it is a different one.
Both of them sit inside a cell.
A Social Studies lesson from Rwanda Education Board about the place where we live.
Tip
Small village, big cell
Hold up one finger. That is your village.
Now open your whole hand. That is the cell, holding many villages.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Which one is bigger, a village or a cell?
Answer: a cell. It holds many villages inside it.
Many villages make one what?
Answer: one cell. Say it again: many villages, one cell.
Is this right or wrong: "Many cells make one village."
Answer: wrong. It is the other way round. Many villages make one cell.
Mutesi sleeps in one village and learns in another village. Can that happen?
Answer: yes. Your home village and your school village can be different.
Say your village name out loud. Then ask a grown-up for your cell name.
Answer: only you know this one. Say both names together, village first.
