Living in Harmony
Lesson 2 of 4
11 min
Let's begin
Mutesi opens her desk. Her new pencil is not there.
Somebody took it. It was only one small pencil, but Mutesi cannot write.
Today you will sort actions into good and not good.
Some things you do make other people feel safe and happy.
Say them out loud with me:
1. Respecting others.
2. Telling the truth.
3. Being honest with things that are not yours.
4. Sharing what you have.
5. Saying sorry when you are wrong.
Some things you do make other people feel sad or afraid.
Stealing. Fighting. Refusing to share. Using bad words. Telling lies.
A good pupil chooses from the first list every day.
Careful! A small wrong is still a wrong.
A small thing taken is still taken. Mutesi has no pencil now.
A small unkind word still hurts. The child you call a name remembers it all day.
Worked example
three actions at break time.
Step 1 Byiringiro gives half his mandazi to a friend. Does that help or hurt? It helps. That is good.
Step 2 Niyonzima laughs at a boy who fell. Does that help or hurt? It hurts. That is not good.
Step 3 Keza tells the teacher the truth about the broken chair. That is good, even when it is hard.

Tip
Ask: would I like it done to me?
Before you do something, put yourself in the other child's place.
If you would not like it, do not do it.
Say good or not good for each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Ishimwe takes a rubber from a desk that is not his.
Answer: not good. Taking a small thing is still stealing.
Umutoni tells the teacher what really happened.
Answer: good. That is telling the truth.
Habimana shouts a bad word at his friend.
Answer: not good. Bad words hurt, even in a game.
Keza says sorry after she steps on a foot.
Answer: good. Sorry brings the peace back.
Name one good thing you did at home yesterday.
Answer: any helping, sharing or true word counts. Do it again today.
