Roads and Messages
Lesson 4 of 4
11 min
Let's begin
It is evening at Umutoni's home.
The radio is on. A voice tells about the rain coming.
Nobody in the room can see that person.
Today you will learn the things that carry messages.
A message travels far when something carries it.
Here are the ones to learn by name.
A letter is a message written on paper and sent to one person.
A newspaper is printed for many people to read.
It carries the news of the week to everybody who buys it.
A radio brings voices, songs and news into your room.
You hear it, but you cannot see the speaker.
A television brings pictures as well as sound.
A mobile telephone goes in a pocket and travels with its owner.
A fixed telephone stays in one place, often in an office.
With either one you speak, and somebody far away hears you at once.
A desktop computer sits on a table and does not move.
A laptop computer folds shut and can be carried.
Both of them can send a message to another town.
Careful! Do not put a bus and a radio in the same group.
Transport carries people and goods on the road.
Communication carries words and pictures.
A letter travels, but it is not transport. What moves is the message inside.
These things cost a lot of money.
Hold a phone with dry hands. Do not bang the radio.
A short lesson about the telephone, from REB.
Tip
People go by bus. Words go by radio
Ask one question: does it carry a body, or does it carry a message?
