Prayer
Lesson 3 of 6
10 min
Let's begin
Gatete opens his eyes. The sun is already on the wall.
Before he stands up, his mother says a few words.
That night, before he lies down, she says a few more.
Today you will learn the moments when people pray.
People do not keep prayer for one special day.
Prayer fits into an ordinary day, again and again.
Here are the moments people use most.
Some children think people pray only one day a week.
Careful! Look at the list again.
Waking up happens every single morning.
Eating happens every single day.
So prayer can happen every day, and more than once.
Mutesi prays before class at school.
She also prays before the evening meal at home.
Both are real prayer moments.
One does not cancel the other out.
A moment does not have to be on the list.
Habimana was afraid of a big dog on the path. He prayed right there.
Umutoni was happy about her new baby brother. She thanked God that afternoon.
Any moment can become a prayer moment.
Tip
Eyes open, eyes closing
The first moment of the day and the last moment of the day.
Those two are the easiest to remember, because they happen to everybody.
Fill in the middle later: before class, before food, before a journey.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
Name the first prayer moment of the day.
Answer: when you wake up. It is a thank you for the new day.
Niyonzima is about to travel to Rubavu in a bus. Is that a prayer moment?
Answer: yes. People pray before travelling, for a safe journey.
True or false: people pray only one day a week.
Answer: false. Waking and eating happen every day, and so can prayer.
