Prayer
Lesson 4 of 6
10 min
Let's begin
Umutoni walks the red path to school every morning.
She passes a church with a metal roof. Further on she passes a mosque.
She thinks people can only talk to God inside those two buildings.
Today you will find out whether she is right.
People pray in many different places.
So Umutoni was not right.
Careful! A church and a mosque are places where people pray together.
But they are not the only places a prayer can happen.
A child can pray sitting at her own desk.
A child can pray on her sleeping mat, with nobody else awake.
Sometimes people pray together, in one voice.
That happens in a church, in a mosque, or in a family at home.
Sometimes a person prays alone, and nobody hears.
Both are real. Neither one is better than the other.
Ishimwe prayed while he was weeding the bean field.
Mugisha prayed on the bus, looking out at the hills.
Neither of them stopped what he was doing.
The place did not change the prayer at all.
