Practice Songs in C Scale
Lesson 2 of 4
25 min
Let's begin
At break, Keza wants to play football and Mugisha wants to help in the school garden. "Football is for boys!" someone shouts. "Gardening is for girls!" shouts another. Are they right? Our first song answers that question.
This song was written for you by Ganzaa.
Girls and Boys Together
Verse
Girls and boys can learn and play,
Side by side at school each day.
Girls can build and boys can cook,
Both can lead and read a book.Chorus
Same chance, same dream,
Same school, same team!
Hand in hand we grow,
Equal, now we know!
The song says that girls and boys should have the same chances: to learn, to play, to do any job and to be leaders. This is called gender equality. Music shows it too. Today in Rwanda, girls and women play the drums, and Sophie Nzayisenga is one of the country's best-known inanga players, an instrument that used to be played mostly by men.

Here is the whole chorus. Look how the tune climbs up to high do on "same team!" to make those words ring out.
Tip
The chorus climbs to the top. The highest notes (high do) are on "same team!", the most important words. When you sing them, smile and sing lightly, not shouting.
Try each one first, then tap Show answer to check.
