A doctor? A pilot? A farmer with a big coffee field? A teacher like your favourite teacher?
Today you will learn how French talks about the future, so you can tell everyone your dream job.
La maîtresse : Qu'est-ce que vous ferez plus tard, les enfants ?
Uwase : Quand je serai grande, je serai pilote. Je voyagerai dans le monde entier !
Mugisha : Moi, je serai médecin. Je soignerai les malades à l'hôpital de Huye.
Ishimwe : Et moi, je serai agriculteur, comme mon grand-père. Je cultiverai du café et je planterai des arbres, comme Wangari !
La maîtresse : Bravo ! Vous travaillerez tous pour le Rwanda.
For most verbs, take the whole infinitive and add an ending:

| ils / elles travailleront | they will work |
More examples: je jouerai, tu planteras, elle voyagera, nous cultiverons.
A few important verbs have a special stem, but the same endings:

| faire → fer- | je ferai, tu feras, il fera |
| avoir → aur- | j'aurai, tu auras, il aura |
Quand je serai grand (boy) / grande (girl) means 'when I grow up'. Future words: demain (tomorrow), plus tard (later), un jour (one day), l'année prochaine (next year).
Work with a friend. Ask: « Qu'est-ce que tu feras plus tard ? » Answer with your dream job and one thing you will do: « Je serai … Je … »
Tip
The endings sound like avoir. Listen: j'ai, tu as, il a, nous avons, vous avez, ils ont. The future endings are almost the same: je planterai, tu planteras, il plantera… You already know them!
Complete: Demain, je ___ au football. (jouer)
Answer: jouerai.
Complete: Nous ___ des arbres. (planter)
Answer: planterons.
Complete: Quand je ___ grande, je serai pilote. (être)
Answer: serai.
