Lesson 4 of 4
35 min
Uwase has invited her new friend Mutesi to play at her house after school on Friday. But Mutesi has never been there. Uwase writes the way on a piece of paper.
A good route is like a recipe: the steps must come in the right order. Today you will write yours.
Mutesi, voici le chemin de l'école à ma maison :
D'abord, tu sors de l'école et tu tournes à droite. Ensuite, tu vas tout droit dans la rue. Puis, au rond-point, tu tournes à gauche. Enfin, ma maison est à droite, à côté de la boutique. C'est une maison bleue. À vendredi !
Le chemin = the way. À vendredi ! = See you on Friday!
| French | English | When |
|---|---|---|
| d'abord | first | the first step |
| ensuite | next | a middle step |
| puis | then | a middle step |
| enfin | finally | the last step |
Put the order word at the start of the sentence, followed by a comma: D'abord, tu tournes à droite.
French has two different "u" sounds, and they change the meaning:
Practise the pairs: la rue / la roue, dessus / dessous, tu / tout. Then say: « Tu tournes dans la rue. »
Write the way from your school to your home (or to a place you like) in four sentences. Use d'abord, ensuite, puis and enfin, and at least one of à gauche, à droite, tout droit. Then read it to a partner, who follows it with a finger on a drawing.
Tip
Whistle for the u. If your lips are rounded like a whistle while your tongue says "ee", you are saying the French u of rue. If your mouth makes the round "oo" of umuntu, that is ou, as in roue.
