Hello! Welcome to Our Class
Lesson 1 of 7
10 min
Let's begin
Read this with a big person. Say every English word out loud.
Uwase wakes up early. The sun is coming up over the hill.
At school, her teacher says two English words to her. Uwase does not know them yet.
Today you will say hello at the right time of day.
English has one hello for each part of the day.
Look at the sun. Then say the right words.
The sun is coming up. Say: Good morning.
The sun is high over your head. Say: Good afternoon.
The sun is gone. Say: Good evening.
Careful! Many children say Good morning all day long. That is not right. When the sun is high, say Good afternoon.
Your teacher (mwarimu) is at school. Your friend (inshuti) is at school too.
Good morning, teacher.
Good afternoon, Keza.
Good evening, Mugisha.
After hello, people ask you: How are you?
You say: I am fine, thank you.
Say the whole thing every time, from start to end. Do not change the words.
Mugisha says: Good morning, Uwase. How are you?
Uwase says: Good morning, Mugisha. I am fine, thank you.
Say it out loud three times today. Say it to a big person at home.
A song: good morning, good afternoon, good night.
A song: How are you? I am fine.
