Hello! Welcome to Our Class
Lesson 2 of 7
10 min
Let's begin
Read this with a big person. Say every English word out loud.
School is over. Mugisha walks out of the school gate.
His friend Gatete walks the other way home. Mugisha waves his hand at him.
Today you will learn what to say when you go away.
Hello is for coming. Goodbye is for going.
You go home. You say: Goodbye, teacher.
Your friend goes home too. She says: Goodbye, Mugisha.
You will see your friend again at school. So you say more words:
Goodbye! See you tomorrow.
Say it, and wave your hand at the same time.
The sun is gone. Keza comes to her friend Mutesi. What does Keza say?
She says: Good evening.
Careful! She does not say Good night. In English, Good night is only for going away or going to sleep.
You come to somebody, and the sun is gone: Good evening.
You go away to sleep: Good night.
A new girl comes to your class. You do not know her name yet.
You say: Hello! How are you?
She says: I am fine, thank you.
Now she is your friend, and you can ask her more.
A song: hello when you come, goodbye when you go.
A goodbye song for the end of the day.
Tip
Hello comes in. Goodbye goes out
Wave your hand every time you say goodbye. Your hand helps your mouth remember.
Good night is the last one of the day. You say it, and then you go to sleep.
