Hello! Welcome to Our Class
Lesson 6 of 7
12 min
Let's begin
Read this with a big person. Say every English word out loud.
Niyonzima sits in class. His teacher says two words: Stand up.
All the children stand up, and Niyonzima stands up too. Then his teacher asks him something, and he says nothing.
Today you will do what the teacher says, and then say it back.
Your teacher says these words in class every day. Do every one of them now, in the room you are in.
Do them again, fast. Your body learns the words before your mouth does.
Your teacher asks: What are you doing?
Do not say the order back to her. Say what your body is doing.
Stand up. - I am standing up.
Sit down. - I am sitting down.
Clap your hands. - I am clapping.
Stamp your feet. - I am stamping.
Sing a song. - I am singing.
Careful! Stand up is not the answer to What are you doing? The answer starts with I am every time.
A song: stand up, sit down. Do it with them.
A hello song. Clap your hands with them.
