Let's begin
Grown-up: read this page out loud. Your child needs a stick and some dust, or a pencil and a notebook.
Gatete writes the letter a in the dust with a stick.
His sister says: "Now write e."
Gatete makes a 3 the wrong way round.
Today you will meet two new letters: e and o.
This is the letter e. The big one is E.
Say its name out loud: e.
This is the letter o. The big one is O.
Say its name out loud: o.
Look at this row. Find every e and circle it.
| e | a | o | e | a | e | o | e |
Count them. There are four.
Now find every o. There are two.
e starts with a flat line going across. Then go up and all the way round.
o starts at the top. Go all the way round. Do not leave a tail.
Careful! Does your e look like a 3 the wrong way round?
Start again with the flat line.
Write e, E, o and O six times each in the dust.
Then write each one in your notebook.
b e d ... the word bed has an e.
r e d ... the word red has an e.
d o g ... the word dog has an o.
b o x ... the word box has an o.
r o o m ... the word room has two o.

Watch how the hand writes each small letter. Look for e and for o.
Tip
e goes across first. o goes all the way round
Say it out loud while your hand moves.
"Across, then up and round" for e.
"Round and round, no tail" for o.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
