God's Creation
Lesson 6 of 6
12 min
Let's begin
Byiringiro walks past the school gate with an empty jerrycan.
A goat is tied up in the hot sun, pulling at its rope.
Its water bowl is dry and full of dust.
Today you will learn how to care for what was made.
Look at what the creatures and the plants give you every day.
Almost everything in your bowl came out of creation.
Do not hurt an animal, and do not let other children hurt one.
Give it food. Give it water. Move it out of the hot sun.
Byiringiro can fill that dry bowl right now, before school.
Plant a tree. Water the seedling at your school.
Do not break flowers for fun.
Careful! Cutting down plants and flowers is not caring for them.
A tree left standing feeds birds, shades you and holds the soil.
A tree cut down burns once, and then it is gone.
Keep rubbish out of the river. People and animals drink that water.
Sweep your classroom. Pick up the paper in the yard.
Keep your home clean.
Caring for people is part of it too.
Be kind. Help someone with a heavy load. Share what you have.
Careful! This is not only work for grown-ups.
A child can do every one of these things today.
Tip
Feed it, water it, keep it clean
Choose one small thing near you each day.
One bowl of water. One swept corner. One seedling watered.
Do each one, then tap Show answer to check.
The goat's bowl is dry. What do you do?
Answer: fill it with water. A tied animal cannot fetch water for itself.
Is cutting down flowers a good way to care for creation?
Answer: no. Leave them growing. A standing plant helps everybody.
Name two things a tree gives us.
Answer: fruit and shade. Firewood and a home for birds also count.
Umutoni throws a plastic bottle into the river. What is wrong with that?
Answer: it dirties the water people and animals drink. She should put it in the rubbish pit.
Choose one thing to do today for something that was made.
Answer: for example water a plant, feed a hen, or sweep your classroom.
What you learned today

All three come from African Storybook and are free to read online.
Quick check
Match each one to what it gives us.
Tap one on the left, then its partner on the right.
