God's Creation
Lesson 2 of 6
11 min
Let's begin
Night comes to Mugisha's village.
He lies on his mat and holds up one hand.
His grandmother is telling him how the world began.
Today you will count the first three days with him.
The story says the work of creating took six days.
Something new came on each day.
The order matters, so learn the days in order.
Hold up one hand and count them on your fingers.
First came the light, and with it the darkness.
Light is the bright time. Darkness is the dark time.
That is how there came to be day and night.
Careful! The sun was not made on day one.
The sun comes later. Wait for day four.
On the second day came the sky.
Go outside and look straight up. That wide space is the sky.
Clouds sit in it. Rain falls out of it.
On the third day the water moved aside and dry land came out.
The land is the hills you walk on. The seas are the big waters.
Then trees and plants grew on that land.
Banana plants, grass, beans and tall trees all came on day three.
Careful! The plants came before any animal, not after.
Light. Sky. Land.
Say it three times, touching one finger each time.
Tip
Light, sky, land
Three words, three fingers, always in that order.
If you hear yourself say sun for day one, you jumped too far. Hop back: day one is light.
Answer each one, then tap Show answer to check.
What came on the first day?
Answer: light and darkness. Not the sun.
What came on the second day?
Answer: the sky. Step outside and look up at it.
Name two things that came on the third day.
Answer: the land and the seas. Trees and plants also came on day three.
Did the trees come before the sky or after it?
Answer: after. The sky is day two and the trees are day three.
Count the first three days on your fingers without looking back.
Answer: light, sky, land. Say it to somebody at home.
