Animals at My Home
Lesson 3 of 5
12 min
Let's begin
Grown-up: read this page out loud. Make every animal sound with your child.
Umutoni sits on the mat with her cat.
The cat comes near and makes its small sound.
Her brother says: "In English the cat says meow."
Today you will say what every animal says.
Say each one out loud. Make it big!
The cow says moo.
The goat says baa.
The sheep says baa too.
The pig says oink.
The cat says meow.
The dog says bark.
The hen says cluck.
The donkey says bray.
Your cow makes one sound every day.
It is the same sound in Rwanda and in every place.
But English writes that sound in a new way: moo.
You are not wrong when you say it your way at home.
Today you say it the English way too.
Your favourite animal is the best one for you.
Say the whole thing:
My favourite animal is the cat.
It says meow.
Ishimwe says: My favourite animal is the goat. It says baa.
Now say yours out loud.
Say moo very slowly. The first sound is /m/.
Say baa. The first sound is /b/.
Say meow. It starts with /m/, like moo.
Listen for moo and for oink. Make every sound with the song.
